About Keep Madison County BeautifulKeep Madison County Beautiful is an affiliate of Keep Texas Beautiful, a statewide community improvement, litter prevention, and beautification organization. KMCB came into existence in October 2007, having grown out of Keep Madisonville Beautiful. By broadening our focus to include all of Madison County, opportunities to assist in the community have multiplied for us. KMCB currently oversees several different programs:Adopt a Spot - You as an individual or a group may choose to adopt a spot, drainage way, or city street. The goal is to designate that area as yours to keep clean. Once the group has conducted two of six required annual clean-ups, an Adopt-A-Spot sign with your organization's name or acronym on it will be installed at your adoption location.
Spot of the Month - This is a fun one! We seledt one residence and one business each month to receive recognition as "Spot of the Month". We look for clean and attractive properties that increase the overall appeal of our county. Recipients of this award are generally individuals and businesses who maintain their property themselves. If you have a favorite spot, you may nominate them by contacting Rae Kubiak at 936-348-3591. (Rae will want to know the address of the property, and who owns it. If you can send a photo of the property with an explanation of why you wish to nominate it that will be even better.) The Green Team - The Green Team started as a group specifically intended to police The Texas Mushroom Festival for recyclables. This festival, held in Madisonville, Texas each October, is one of more than 30 events in Texas supported by "Green Teams" whose special aim is to help decrease litter and to enhance recycling opportunities at public events in the community. Coca-Cola got us started in 2006, and Keep Texas Beautiful continues to provide planning assistance. The Green Team has since branched out and assists where ever and when ever we can! Annual Garden Show and Seminar - For three years this event has been held in the Spring, at the Truman Kimbro Center. We have had interesting speakers and exhibitors, and finished up with a tree give-away thanks to the Texas Forestry Service. |

August 11, 2008The Green Team Wants YOU The Texas Mushroom Festival, on October 25, will once again participate in the Keep Madison County Beautiful Green Team's recycling program this year. The Green Team encourages festival participants and visitors to recycle their waste products, and in the process improve the overall experience of the festival for everyone. By following the "Green Event" guidelines set forth for Keep Texas Beautiful affiliates, the Madison County Green Team aims to reduce clean-up times after the festival, while they promote a message about the benefits of recycling. An added benefit derived from the Green Team's efforts is that costs associated with event clean-up are reduced, and less rubbish ends up in land fills. The Green Team invites all with an interest in recycling in Madison County to join the Green Team 2008. We welcome Madison County residents of all ages. We encourage parents to join with their kids. It's a great learning experience for everyone! Download the Green Team Application. May 2, 2008Madisonville Elementary School teachers worked their third Adopt-a-Spot clean-up. They also turned in 39 lbs plastic, 6 lbs aluminum to be recycled. April 25, 20085 recycling bins were placed at the Madisonville Sidewalk Cattlemen's rodeo grounds for their annual trail ride. 3 large bags of recyclables were collected. April 15, 20082 recycling bins were placed at the Little League concession stand at Lake Madison. The bins stayed there for the duration of the 2008 Little League season. 20lbs of tin cans, and 128 lbs of newspaper/cardboard/plastic have been collected to date. March 24-28, 2008Five recycling bins were set up at the annual Madison County Fair & Rodeo. Several bags of recyclable plastic bottles and aluminum cans were collected. Workers in the concession area were very cooperative about using the recycle bins. March 18 & 28, 2008Two members of the Green Team, Kay Welch and Kim Davis, with the help of Madisonville Elementary School's art teacher Sandy Dodson, presented an educational program entitled, "What Can We Recycle", to the 2nd grade students at North Zulch Elementary and Madisonville Elementary, respectively. The program made the students more aware of the different types of recycling that can be done. The program was intended to kick-off a poster contest. The 2nd graders were asked to draw posters to represent the different types of recycling they learned about from the talks. The winning posters will be published in a calendar for 2009. This year, Keep Madison County Beautiful and the Green team are sponsoring a poster contest for second graders in Madison County. The theme for the contest is "What Can We Recycle", and Green Team Coordinators Kay Welch and Kim Davis along with Sandy Dodson from Madisonville Elementary School kicked the event off by talking to area second graders. The winning posters were selected by KMCB Committe members at their meeting on May 5. "What Can We Recycle" Art Contest - 2008
